Activities for kids at home

Many of our team members have little ones to keep busy on the weekend or when they're home from school. So we put together a list of resources for parents. From arts and crafts, to home schooling activities and museum exhibits being streamed online, there’s something for everyone. We’ve thought of all ages too – from pre-school to teens.

Art and Crafts

• Google Art Project gives you access to view thousands of art appearing in museums across the world.
• Kids Activities Blog offers a collection of printables and learning activities.

Educational Resources

• Explore Mars with Google’s 360 camera.
• Kids can learn to code at Code.org.
• National Geographic offers games, videos, and explorative learning activities for kids.
• Instructables is an online community for people that makes things. Explore projects that you can do with your family, including math and the art of origami and how to make your own mandala colouring page.
• Khan Academy offers free courses for children (and adults) at all levels, including math, grammar, engineering, and art history.
• Open Culture’s K-12 free educational resources for parents and kids.
• Prodigy has a range of math topics from Grades 1 to 8.
• Purple Mash (children’s curriculum learning) and Serial Mash (online library with guided reading resources) are available free during school closures. Sign up free here.
• Scholastic Learning Journeys is available for pre-kindergarten to Grade 9. Scholastic also has a list of Resources for Families.
• TVOKids offers Pre-School and School Age online games and activities free. You can also watch their channel live and ad-free on their YouTube channel.
• Connect with nature in Canada by exploring its inhabitants by iNaturalist.

Health and Exercise

• YMCA exercise programs classes, including fitness, dancing, yoga, and more.

Museums

• Canadian Museum of History has several exhibits online.
• Googles Top 10 Museums to walk virtually, including the British Museum and Guggenheim Museum.
• Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is sharing content via their Instagram and Facebook pages daily.
• National Gallery of Canada’s online archive of photos is accessible to the public.
• Royal Ontario Museum’s collection can be viewed through their online archive. A Google virtual tour of inside the museum is also available free.
• Vancouver Art Gallery’s virtual tour through Google accesses the art gallery’s floor itself. Some images can also be found related to their current exhibits free.
